PMA Wrap Up!

IMG_2806Last week I had the privilege of attending the 2015 Pilates Method Alliance Conference (PMA) in Denver, Colorado.  About 1,000 Pilates Instructors from around the world attended (about 28 countries were represented!)  It was an opportunity for me to reconnect with my Pilates friends across the country. It was an opportunity for me to learn more, move more, be inspired and be motivated to be even better for you!

Over the coming weeks I will have plenty of new insights, thoughts and ideas to share with you. For now, here is just a ‘teaser of what’s to come!

I took a class all about neck strength and pain and freeing up the shoulders. It was excellent and taught by the talented Cara Reeser from Colorado. We’ll delve deeper into this topic in the studio and on the blog later … but for now the key takeaway is this: your neck is made of muscles and vertebrae. It is ok to feel it!  We feel our other muscles working.  You can not build strength without working the muscles. Cara shared with us safe ways to work a deconditioned neck!  I can’t wait to share these with you in class!

I also took a wonderful class about DRA – Diastasis Recti Abdominis. Did you know men can have this separation of the abdomen and so can women who have never had surgery or a pregnancy. This is a topic I have studied quite a bit and sought additional training  in the past   … it was great to add to this knowledge and add a few more tools to my toolbox!

I participated in a an excellent mat class that focused all on opening the hips and freeing the back. I have to say, I have felt better than I have in years after this class. We’ll be using some of this on the reformer.

I also took a wonderful class about deconstructing the Pilates work.  I always say we can modify anything in Pilates and this class offered lots of options for modifying the work to meet YOUR needs. The talented Brett Howard made this class funny and so informative.

This is just a sampling of a few of the learnings I brought back and can’t wait to share with you! Pilates is a practice and I keep growing so i can be my best for you!
